The island is not far from E-6 (approximately 20 minutes). If you drive here, you must run through the undersea tunnel under the strait, Maursund, and through a tunnel, Kågentunnelen, on the island Kågen. Both tunnels are of course free to run through. The municipality has a total of about 3000 inhabitants spread over several islands, about 2400 of them live in the village Skjervøy. While the rest is divided among the other islands (Arnøy, Laukøy, Kågen, Vorterøy and Uløya) in the municipality. Skjervøy is the administrative center, here you will find a variety of services, including medical, pharmacy, post office, bank, cinema, hotel with bar and restaurant etc. Skjervøy has also a good selection of shops. Here is high school with a number of lines, in particular aimed to fisheries-related occupations. Skjervøy has the oldest wooden church in Nord Hålogaland, one of many dioceses in Norway. The church was built in year 1728. Skjervøy also has cultural, sports and swimming, and a football filed.
